About Saint Martha

Saint Martha lived in Bethany with her sister Mary and brother Lazarus, whom Jesus loved dearly. When Our Lord visited their home, Martha welcomed Him and devoted herself to serving Him. On one occasion, while Martha was occupied with household duties, Jesus gently reminded her that listening to His teaching was the one thing necessary. This encounter revealed the importance of uniting diligent service with prayer and attentiveness to God.

When Lazarus died, Martha approached Jesus with remarkable confidence in His divine power. She professed her belief that He was the Christ, the Son of the living God, before witnessing the miraculous raising of her brother from the dead. According to later Christian tradition, Martha eventually traveled to southern France, where she continued her life of faith. Her example teaches Catholic families that ordinary household responsibilities can become acts of love when performed with devotion to Our Lord.
