About Saint Jude Thaddius
Saint Jude Thaddeus was one of the Twelve Apostles personally chosen by Jesus Christ to proclaim the Gospel. Distinguished from Judas Iscariot, he is identified in Sacred Scripture as Jude, or Thaddeus, and is traditionally associated with the Epistle of Saint Jude. At the Last Supper, he asked Our Lord why He would reveal Himself to His disciples and not to the world. After Pentecost, Saint Jude courageously preached the Christian faith, with ancient traditions placing his missionary work in regions including Mesopotamia and Persia.
According to tradition, Saint Jude suffered martyrdom while spreading the Gospel, often together with Saint Simon the Apostle. He is commonly depicted holding a club, representing his martyrdom, and an image of the Holy Face of Christ, recalling the ancient tradition of Edessa. Throughout the centuries, Catholics have sought his intercession in desperate and seemingly impossible circumstances. His life teaches Catholic families to persevere in prayer, remain faithful during trials, and place their confidence in the mercy and providence of Almighty God.
