About Saint Gabriel the Archangel

Saint Gabriel the Archangel is among the heavenly messengers entrusted by Almighty God with announcing His divine plans. In the Old Testament, Gabriel appeared to the Prophet Daniel, helping him understand visions concerning future events. In the Gospel of Saint Luke, Gabriel appeared to Zachary in the Temple, announcing that his wife Elizabeth would bear a son, Saint John the Baptist. When Zachary doubted the message, Gabriel declared that he stood in the presence of God and had been sent to announce these glad tidings.

Saint Gabriel’s greatest mission was the Annunciation, when God sent him to the Blessed Virgin Mary in Nazareth. He announced that, by the power of the Holy Ghost, she would conceive and bear Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Through Mary’s humble acceptance, the mystery of the Incarnation was fulfilled. Saint Gabriel reminds Catholic families to listen attentively to God’s word, trust in Divine Providence, and imitate the Blessed Virgin Mary’s perfect obedience.
