About Saint Dominic Savio

Saint Dominic Savio was born in 1842 in Riva di Chieri, Italy, into a devout Catholic family. From an early age, he demonstrated exceptional love for prayer and the Blessed Sacrament. At seven years old, upon receiving his First Holy Communion, he resolved to avoid sin and make Jesus and Mary his closest friends. At twelve, Dominic entered the Oratory of Saint John Bosco in Turin, where he became known for his cheerful disposition, obedience, and willingness to help others. He encouraged his companions to practice virtue and remain faithful to their Catholic duties.

Saint Dominic possessed a profound devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and helped establish the Sodality of the Immaculate Conception among his fellow students. Although his health gradually weakened, he continued to offer his sufferings to Almighty God with remarkable patience. He died on March 9, 1857, before reaching his fifteenth birthday. Canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1954, Saint Dominic reminds Catholic families that holiness is possible at every age through purity, joyful sacrifice, frequent reception of the Sacraments, and faithful love for God.
