About Saint Clare of Assisi

Saint Clare of Assisi was born in 1194 into a wealthy Italian family. From childhood, she demonstrated deep devotion to prayer and compassion for the poor. Inspired by the preaching and holy example of Saint Francis of Assisi, she abandoned worldly riches and dedicated herself entirely to Almighty God. On Palm Sunday in 1212, Clare left her family home and received the religious habit from Saint Francis. She later established a community at San Damiano, where she and her sisters embraced poverty, penance, prayer, and a life centered upon Our Lord.

Saint Clare possessed an extraordinary devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. According to tradition, her prayers before the Holy Eucharist helped protect her convent from invading soldiers. Despite suffering from prolonged illness, she faithfully guided her religious community and defended its commitment to poverty. Her rule received papal approval shortly before her death in 1253. Canonized in 1255, Saint Clare reminds Catholic families to trust in Divine Providence, cherish the Holy Eucharist, and seek heavenly treasures above earthly possessions.
