About Saint Thomas More

Born in London in 1478, Saint Thomas More became one of England’s most respected lawyers and eventually served as Lord Chancellor under King Henry VIII. Despite his important public responsibilities, he remained devoted to prayer, family life, and the teachings of the Catholic Church. When Henry VIII rejected papal authority and declared himself supreme head of the Church in England, More refused to recognize the king’s religious supremacy. He was imprisoned in the Tower of London and executed on July 6, 1535, remaining steadfast in his Catholic Faith. His life reminds Catholic families that no earthly authority or worldly success should ever come before one’s duty to God.
