About Saint Florian
Saint Florian was born during the third century in the Roman province of Noricum, in present-day Austria. He served as an officer and administrator under the Roman Empire while remaining faithful to Christianity. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian, Florian learned that fellow believers had been imprisoned for refusing to abandon their faith. Rather than remain silent, he courageously attempted to assist them. When confronted by Roman authorities, he openly professed his belief in Jesus Christ and refused to offer sacrifices to the pagan gods.
According to ancient Christian tradition, Saint Florian endured severe torture before being condemned to death. On May 4, A.D. 304, he was thrown into the Enns River with a heavy stone tied around his neck. His courage and martyrdom inspired generations of Christians throughout Europe. He later became especially honored as the patron saint of firefighters and protector against fire. His life reminds Catholic families to defend the faith, help those in danger, and remain faithful to Almighty God even in the face of suffering and persecution.
