About Saint Aloysius Gonzaga

Saint Aloysius Gonzaga was born in 1568 into a noble Italian family and was expected to inherit wealth, power, and military honors. From childhood, however, he developed an extraordinary love for prayer, purity, and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Rejecting the privileges of his noble upbringing, Aloysius resolved to dedicate his life entirely to Almighty God. Despite opposition from his father, he renounced his inheritance and entered the Society of Jesus in Rome in 1585. There he embraced religious discipline, humility, and obedience, seeking holiness through prayer and self-denial.

During an outbreak of disease in Rome, Saint Aloysius devoted himself to caring for the sick and dying, personally assisting those whom others feared to approach. He contracted a serious illness through this charitable service and died in 1591 at just twenty-three years of age. His short life was marked by extraordinary purity, courage, and love for Christ. Canonized in 1726, Saint Aloysius became a beloved patron of Catholic youth. His example reminds families to place God above worldly ambitions, preserve purity of heart, and practice selfless charity toward those in need.
